Charleston, W. Va. –Clarksburg Attorney Michael J. Romano was named Trial Lawyer of the Year by the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. The award was presented at the WVTLA annual convention.
“I feel very privileged that my professional colleagues have given me this award. Many of them have represented West Virginia residents’ interests far longer and better than I have. I respect them very much. To have them decide that my contributions are worthy of such an award is a tremendous honor, and I am very grateful,” Romano said.

BIOGRAPHY OF MICHAEL J. ROMANO
Michael J. Romano is a certified public accountant and attorney representing individuals and small business throughout West Virginia and surrounding states. Mr. Romano’s practice consists of complex litigation in both state and federal courts focusing on bodily injury, insurance disputes, and business litigation. Mr. Romano is a former federal officer with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in its Divisions of Enforcement and Corporate Finance assisting in civil and criminal prosecutions of securities fraud among publicly traded companies. While at the SEC, he was on the Chairman ‘s Thrift and S&L Fraud Task Force, charged with the prosecution of fraud and mismanagement committed during the savings and loan debacle of the 80’s and 90’s. Prior to that time, Mr. Romano started his accounting career with KPMG Main Hurdman, then with Peat Marwick Main, Big Eight and Big Six accounting firms.
Mr. Romano is a member of the West Virginia State Senate serving on the Judiciary, Education, Economic Development, and Technology Committees. In 2010, voters elected Mr. Romano as one of three County Commissioners for Harrison County. Mr. Romano is a past president of the West Virginia Association for Justice and the Harrison County Bar Association. He has served on the Harrison County Parks & Recreation Commission and on the Board of the United Way of Harrison County, among many other appointments and professional organizations. Mr. Romano is the past Treasurer of the West Virginia State Democratic Party and Co-Chairman of the Harrison County Democratic Party. He was vice president of the North Central West Virginia Trade Development Association and helped form the Harrison County Economic Development Corporation both of which promoted economic development, and he formed the Harrison County Patrons of the Parks Foundation which benefits county park activities. Mr. Romano has received numerous awards including nomination by his peers to multiple editions of The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and as the West Virginia Association For Justice Trial Lawyer Member of the Year in 2005 and 2011. Mr. Romano also sits on numerous boards and commissions.
Mr. Romano guest lectures at the high school and collegiate levels as well as continuing legal education classes. Mr. Romano lives in Bridgeport with his wife Amy and their two children, Emma and Michael.
